The less familiar the work, the more setup needed
An expert on a subject can sprint when you fire off a question. A slight prompt and there they go. No setup needed.
If we’re doing what we’re good at, we don’t need setup. We have the skills to improvise.
If we’re doing something new, a good setup may be in order. We don’t have enough honed intuition to improvise.
A non-expert has to take their time. Read an article, learn how to use a particular app, find tutorials, put together everything needed… And that feels inefficient and uncomfortable.
If you switch work often, pay attention to whether it’s something you do often or not.
If so, go! What are you waiting for?
If not, take your time, prepare. And proceed.
